Hope to hear from you...

Our market season is over for this year and we're already looking forward to the possibility of a one day holiday market and then the market season of 2012. Please stop by periodically to see what's been arranged. We'll post periodically to keep you updated.

If you gave us your email address you'll receive updates directly. If you gave us your email before the last day of the market and never received an email please send it to us here. There were about 7 or 8 addresses that were problematic and those emails were returned to us for a variety of reasons.

Once again, thank you for your interest and continued patronage through the season.

Last Market 9/25...

Sadly, 9/25 will be our last Sunday farmers market. Please stop by to say goodbye to your favorite vendors and pick up whatever you've grown to think of as favorite items to keep on hand. Most of our vendors will be there.

If you haven't stopped at the market table by the entrance to give us your email address, please do for future news of the market. If you have signed up and have not gotten either of the two emails we've sent, stop to give us the address again. There were a handful of addresses that were undeliverable.

Due to the number of requests we're working on getting orders from Sapore for pickup. We will be notifying those on our email list how this will be implemented so help us to stay in touch.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Week of 9/18...

This week you may want to start thinking of stocking up on items for the winter, just like the squirrels digging up your yard. You can also order items to pick up next week so that you're sure you will have them. That way your freezer or pantry will have little reminders of the summer market, weather and tastes to give you a smile through the winter.

If you haven't given us your email address, please stop at the market table as you enter and let us know. That's the only way to be sure you'll be notified of future news on the market's future. If you gave us your e-mail and didn't receive a message last week, please stop by the table to rectify the matter.

See you on Sunday, September 18.

No Market 9/11...

Just a reminder, there will be no farmers market this Sunday, September 11.

There will be a charity picnic/barbecue, rain or shine, at the Knights of Columbus that is open to the public on Sunday, Sept. 11. Planned games & events will be held. Half of the proceeds will go to charities that benefit our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and the other half will go to local charities. For more information regarding the menu, events and purchase of tickets, please call 201-664-0422 or visit www.kofc5427.org and click on "Announcements".

Our vendors will return with their wares on Sept. 18. We look forward to seeing all our loyal customers then.

On August 21...

We'll have 11 vendors this Sunday including Just Buns, The Whole Cookie, Hudson Valley Pantry and grounded.coffee. They will be joining our regulars. Simply Sassy Sauces is on vacation this week dreaming up new recipes.

I'm singing in the rain....

As the rain kept falling throughout the morning Sunday kids in flip flops and rain boots had a good time in the puddles. The adults who braved the weather found all the goodies they were looking for, some on the trucks and some under the tents.

Our recipe this week is from a sample that Sassy Sauces treated us to on Sunday. Everyone who tried it knew they'd be making it very soon. Look at our recipe corner for the unique eggplant salad that can be used warmed up as a side dish or at room temperature as a salad for a barbeque.

It's August already...where's the summer going???

This week joining our basic seven we have:
  • The Whole Cookie - If you haven't included your 4 pawed family member in your market shopping, this is the week to start. "Cookie" already has a devoted following though so shop early.
  • Hudson Valley Pantry - Having overheard several people looking for products from Jonathan last week, he'll be well stocked this week with Jams, Salsas and B-b-que sauce this week.
  • grounded.coffee - Melissa will be with us this week so be sure to get your wake up brew on the way in or your much needed iced beverage treat after shopping.
  • Krakus Polish Deli - If you haven't taken a look at what Krakus has to offer, perhaps this is the day. Ask about their stuffed cabbage and kielbasy.

Pascack Press and Community Life....

An article about home gardeners donating produce to the Helping Hand Pantry in Hillsdale through its Ample Harvest campaign appeared in each of our local papers this week. Washington Twp Farmers Market was noted in each article as the only local farmers market donating fruit, vegetables and home baked goods. They also noted the weekly donations by our vendors, Von Thun Country Farm, Melick's Town Farm and Baker's Bounty and extended their thanks. These donations are greatly appreciated by those that receive them and we'd also like to thank you for supporting our market.

Last week, we also welcomed Jams by Kim. She prepared an assortment of jams, including some unusual flavors such as carrot & ginger.

Welcome Jams By Kim

This Sunday, July 31, we are adding a new vendor.

  • Jams By Kim - Kim offers a variety of artisanal jams and jellies. She provides an assortment of sweet and savory tastes that can be used for your toast as well as to flavor a dinner. Her jams are handmade from local harvests of both fruits and vegetables.

Working with Helping Hand Food Pantry

While we're enjoying our farmers market this summer and the ability to buy directly from local farmers and vendors we wanted to extend a hand to those facing difficulties. Thank you to Von Thun's Country Farm, Melick's Town Farm and Baker's Bounty for all their donated products. These donations have been distributed through Helping Hand Food Pantry in Hillsdale, Park Ridge Food Center, and Hillsdale House senior residence to our neighbors who are in need.

We can be proud of the fact that our market was the first to extend a hand to donate to them.

We had a record breaking week in attendance this past Sunday and we were able to get our sponsors together for a photo. So another thank you to the Washington Township Knights of Columbus and Oritani Bank for their support.

Peaches and Melons and Plums, Oh My........

Summer has truly arrived. Baskets of yellow and white peaches welcomed customers as they arrived this week and tubs of cantaloupes and of Sugar Baby melons were snapped up quickly.

All sorts of little new discoveries were unearthed...did you know:
  • You can place an order to be picked up at the next market with Bettinger's Bluff and that they carry hot dogs, homemade precooked meatballs, and pastrami in addition to their steaks?
  • Hudson Valley Pantry created a stir with tasty hummus and a white bean dip in addition to their salsas?
  • grounded. coffee was helping customers beat the heat with custom blended iced teas including Chai?
  • Pickle Licious has several products besides pickles? Try their artichoke hearts...mmm.
The Whole Cookie, this week's new vendor, made several new friends of the furry variety, one of whom we've pictured below. Be sure to stop in to see Sharon in two weeks so your favorite pup can try a taste test. While you're there, check out her human cookies too.

Market is on Rain or Shine...

Farmers and vendors set up a host of goodies in the rain. Customers were able to stand under the tents which helped them to stay out of the rain while shopping. Farmers added Jersey Fresh peas, sweet corn and the first crop of peaches to all their produce.

Supporters willing to brave the weather were warmly greeted by vendors, friends and some rainy day specials. grounded.coffee's Guatemalan Roast was a hit. Sapore Ravioli fans were treated to tastings of their meat ravioli made with ground roast beef. Rain or shine their fresh mozzarella sold out.

We'd all like to extend an extra thank you to those who joined us despite the weather and an invitation for next week's market to all.
